BIOGRAPHY:

Melissa Barth joined the Alpha Center for Divorce Mediation as an affiliate providing divorce mediation services throughout New Jersey. As Vice President for Alpha Resource Center, LLC, Ms. Barth has assisted with the overall growth of the company with a focus on management of Alpha’s New Jersey offices.

Ms. Barth is an experienced trial attorney having represented large property and casualty insurers in coverage matters before the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey. Ms. Barth has also represented Social Security Disability claimants and has extensive experience representing clients in divorce, custody and visitation matters.

Ms. Barth received her B.A. in Political Science from Boston University and her law degree from Roger Williams University School of Law in Rhode Island. She received her certification in divorce mediation from The Institute for Dispute Resolution in Montclair, New Jersey.

EXPERIENCE:

2002 – 2005: Associate Attorney

• Participated in all aspects of litigated and non-litigated matters; prepared dispositive motions, pleadings, discovery, pretrial motions and appellate briefs.

2001 – 2002: United States District Court, Law Clerk

• Drafted reports and recommendations, opinions and orders.
• Assisted with hearings, trials and settlement conferences.

1997 – 2001: Paralegal & Associate Attorney

• Represented clients in governmental benefit hearings.

PUBLIC SERVICE EXPERIENCE:

2000 - Public Interest Clerkship

• Represented clients at custody, visitation and school department hearings, argued motions and assisted with litigation.

2000 - Legal Services Clerkship

• Represented clients in family law, divorce and domestic relations matters, conducted interviews with clients and prepared pretrial memoranda in divorce proceedings.
